LIRA; South African singer (fashionista)

Lira was born Lerato Molapo in Daveyton, South African on 14 March 1979. Her fame came after she won a competition for young singers and songwriters. She actually started performing at the age of 16 and i admit, she has a fabulous voice. In the year 2000, she was discovered by musician and producer Arthur Mafokate who had her sign with his own record label "999 Music". Lira teamed up with keyboardist Victor Mngomezulu, bassist Tshepo Sekele and producer Robin Kohl and in 2006 released feel good, this actually is what made her a big star.
She is beautiful and she has this African features that i like. She has a great voice obvous but am more intrigued by her sense of fashion. i just love the way she dresses herself and the way she picks up outfit that just go great with her natural looks. The make-up also blends well with her skin tone.

African American Celebrity HairStyles we LOVE.

Harry Berry
As an African woman, we come to really struggle with what kind of hairstyles to go with. Even if we wear weave or we have Afro hair, it is difficult to really know what suits you. I have done different hairstyles and permed my hair in different styles many times till i came to one hairstyle that really suits me, i think i like this bulky hairstyle and it has become like my hair statement. I will still try other hairstyles in future but i think i will maintain this one for now till i get fade up with it that is if i will ever get tired of it. We have Hollywood celebrities who have maintained the same hairstyles and they still look good. Some of them change it from time to time like Rihanna and Solange Knowles but they still good and even if they change it, they still maintain some sort of  ''same hair concept'' and i like it. Lets look at some of these celebrities now;

We have Rihanna who just looks fabulous in this hairstyle, it shapes her face. She changes hairstyles sometimes but she has maintained this one and it actually looks great. And in my country, maybe its the same everywhere..,when you go to a saloon and you want to do this hairstyle...,you tell the hair dresser that you want a "Rihanna". keep it girl, we love it.

Monday

6 Amazing Afro HairStyles.

Afro has been in existence since the 1800's. And it is back on the street of Africa, America and the world at large and its most common with the black women. We have celebrities embarrassing this hairstyle big time including me ;-) . I love this hairstyle, others wear the Afro wigs, others grow their own natural hair and just style it..,which ever way, it still looks good. Actually in the 1960's, the Afro also known as the natural became more than a hairstyle or fashion trend but a political statement that allowed black people to express their cultural and historical identity. The hairstyle emerged out of the Black Power Movement, which rejected Dr Martin Luther King's emphasis on non-violence as a form of political struggle. Just a little history about Afros, but am going to give you the best Afro hairstyle i think are amazing.

And of course i don't leave myself out (I.P.M) with my two ladies (Solange and Diana) who inspire me hair-wise!

WHO IS ELLEN JOHNSON SIRLEAF?

While, we all know that Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is the Liberian president (if you didnt know, now you know ;-) ). Am not a politician or follow politics per say but i am going to talk a bit about this powerful woman and i will not talk about her as a president but as a woman. Am going to look at her achievements and her as a mother..apart from being a President she has had other achievements that are every impressive, she is ranking at 87 by Forbes for being on of the most powerful women. She also won the Noble Peace Price in 2011.
Maybe i will mention her political side a bit. She is the first black female president and the first African elected female head of state., that's very impressive i would say, no wonder she is known as the "Iron Lady".

Lets get to know Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf a bit shall we? Ellen is a mother of four sons and a grandmother of eight children. She was married to James Sirleaf when she was only 17 years old whom she lived with in America but she divorced him at a later stage. Ellen is one of the few women on the African continent who inspire me. She is a strong woman who has fought her way up to the top, she is passionate and a hard worker..,i mean she has been working practically since she was seventeen years old. I have been reading her interview on AllAfrica and something she said caught my eyes and it is stuck in my mind..
"To those who are motivated by me, by my life experience, who see me as a role model, i say, be stead fast in your conviction, in your principle, despite the obstacles and the constraints that you will face; perseverance, commitment, dedication to the things you want to achieve are always the virtues of success".
By the way, she is a workaholick and she really has no time to do anything else she says.click here to read more about her.

THANDIE NEWTON.., BORN IN ZAMBIA/ ZIMBABWE/ LONDON?

Thandie Newton
There has been a lot of confusion in the media to where the famous A-List hollywood star Thandie Newton was born. We have had reports that says that she was born in Zambia and other reports says that she was born in Zimbabwe. And we now have reports that says she was born in London. What is the truth? where was this super star born exactly? Well, African Super Woman is here to actually strignten that out., with a report that came from Thandie Newton herself.

The A-List actress Thandie Newton was actually born in London, England on 6 November 1972. I guess the Mix-up comes on because her mother is Zimbabwean and they lived in Zambia at some point in her early life.
Thandie with her parents; Nyasha and Nick Newton
Thandie Newton's mother Nyasha is a Zimbabwean Princess from the Shona tribe who was born in Zambia and her father Nick a British Artist. They were living in Zambia at a time her mother was pregnat with her and they were on a two week trip to London when Thandie was born, they came back to Zambia and stayed there till she was three years old when they moved to England.

SOLANGE KNOWELS, The Queen Of African Style in Hollywood

Solange Knowles, a mother, a songwriter, a singer, a model and a fashionista (my words). A lot of us know her simply of being the young sister of the queen herself  "Beyonce Knowles". but i personally follow her fashion trends and she never disappoint us with that. She has appeared in a number of well known magazines like VOGUE, ELLE, FADER to mention but a few.

My interest is her Afro style.., from her hair, make-up to her cloths, this 28years old super star has it all going. I mostly like her hair...,the big Afro hair..,you know..,like the Diana Ross hair. Its really cool and i have actually done it myself, it really looks sexy.
Anyway, lets have a look at her style. I consider her the queen of Afro style in Hollywood. There are a lot more celebrities in Hollywood that are embracing the Afro look in Hollywood, but i would say Solange Knowles rocks it better. Go girl, we love your STYLE!

SADE..,The Nigerian Born Sensation!

It was last night when i was watching her live concert that she did in 2011 in Burbank. I was amazed at how beautiful she looks and how great she sang. At the age of 52, she looked so amazing and so gracious and very grounded and i though to myself, wow! there is a pure born African woman, whose music has inspired a lot and still inspiring a lot of people.., and i decided to share a bit about her with you. Sade turned 55 early this year and she is still looking as Hot as she did in the 80s and 90s. Age doesnt know her at all, she is m favourite female artist of all time, am sure you agree with me

Helen Folasade Adu commonly known as SADE, was born on 16 January 1959 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Her middle name Folasade means "honour confers your crown". Her father, Adebisi Adu, a Nigerian lecturer in economics and her mother Anne Hayes, an English nurse, met in London and got married in 1955. They moved back to Nigeria and when her parents marriage was on the rock, her mother moved back to England taking Sade who was four at the time and her older brother Banji to live with her parents. She lived with her grandparents till she was 11 when she moved to Holland-on-Sea, Essex to live wither mother.
SADE, Still looking HOT at age 55!
When she was 18, she moved to London and studied at Saint Martin's School of Art. In collage, she joined a soul band, Pride in which she sang backing vocals. I would say that her breakthrough came with Her solo performance of the song "Smooth Operator" which attracted the attention of record companies and in 1983, she signed a solo deal with Epic Records taking three members of the band, Stuart Matthewman, Andrew Hale and Paul Denman with her.

SADE (the Band), was formed in 1984 and the band was named after her. Sade and her band produced the first of a string of hit albums and their debut album "Diamond Life" appeared in 1984. This album was such a success in the UK, reaching No.2 in the UK Album Chart and selling over 1.2 million copies in the UK alone and won the Brit Award for Best British Album in 1985. The album was a hit internationally reaching number one in several countries and the top ten in the US. The band had several hit albums after that including Promise. The band became so big and went on to win a Grammy Award for the Best New Artist in 1986. And in 2002, the album Lovers Rock, won the Grammy Award for the Best Pop Vocal Album. SADE released another album in 2010 and in 2011, the band won their 4th Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The band has sold more than 50million unites to date worldwide and they were ranked at No.50 on VH1's list of the "100 greatest artists of all time".
Sade Adu is the most successful solo female artist in British History. In 2002, she received an OBE from Prince Charles at the Buckingham Palace for services to music and she dedicated her award to all the black women in England. She was also listed at number 30 on VH1's 100 Greatest Women in Music. She lives in the English countryside. oh, Bless her VOICE and BEAUTY!
This is my favourite song, PEARLS.
